I'm struggling with what I least expected I would in the self-publishing process. The actual writing of the book. It's hard to find a rhythm for when is best to write. My job, my business and my band don't exactly operate on a set schedule which makes it impossible to set aside specific time to write. The main problem I'm having is when I do find time to write, it's not a good time for me to focus and be creative. I can't just jam a blitzkrieg writing session between a shift at work and the work I have to do at home. I'm can't get focused and I'm to easily distracted by, well by everything.
Somethings that I've started doing that are working in my favor. Weather permitting, I grab a pen and a notebook and I go outside away from the TV, the internet and the pile of dishes that are screaming to be washed. Also, this may be a little weird, but I've found sitting in my car on my breaks at work helps. The isolation, the peace and quiet let me get my creative mind flowing, just make sure you keep the radio off.
It is definitely a struggle to find not just time, but the right kind of time to write. As time goes on, I find different tricks that work for me. What works for you?
